I have not had a paid writing assignment since February 2020. I had been writing for online and print magazines. Prior to the Corona virus, I had several “pitches” (article ideas) sent out to editors at various publications. However, none of them “landed,” which means I did not receive assignments. Freelance publications are dealing with uncertainty at this time and hiring freelance writers has been affected. Also, prior to Corona, in January, I had been in touch with a librarian at a Brooklyn Public Library branch, and was to have started teaching writing classes at the library branch. But, the Brooklyn Public Library closed (the main library and 58 branches in Brooklyn), and so there was no possibility for teaching classes in the foreseeable future.

As a freelance writer, I from time to time do other types of work for pay (like teaching classes). I had been prepared to work part-time, temporary for the US 2020 Census, as an Enumerator. I put in my application more than a year ago. I had received confirmation that I would be offered a position and the Census was to have started in April. However, due to Corona, the position never materialized and I don’t know whether it will.

I am once again sending out article idea pitches, but I do not know if and when I will get some writing gigs.

My biggest expense is my rent. In fact, my $1,400 per month rent for a studio apartment constitutes 80% of my expenses. I live frugally and am careful with money. However, rent is an issue.. If I could receive $2,800, that would help tremendously.
